Why You Should Never Flush Sanitary Hygiene Products

When you walk in to most bathrooms in Australia, most provide sanitary disposal units for female users. This is great as it ensures that these items do not end up being flushed down the toilet where they can cause havoc to the plumbing system. The blockages caused are not only an inconvenience, they are often costly for the building manager and terrible for the environment.

Ask a plumber and they will say that they are regularly called out to blocked pipes that have been caused by feminine hygiene products. These products are not flushable. Unlike toilet paper, they do no disintegrate in water. They expand when immersed, growing up to 10 times larger. Its no surprise how often they get caught in the pipes. Many drains also have roots growing through them which is a perfect way for the cotton to get caught. Sanitary items are often woven together with plastic which means that when they are disposed of in the water it contributes to microplastics being released into the ocean.

You can protect plumbing and the environment by spreading the word. Don’t flush anything other than toilet paper down the toilet. To make sure that bathroom users do not feel like they need to, provide your bathrooms with sanitary disposal units. This way there is no excuse.

Sanokil sanitary disposal units are stylish and slimline. They fit neatly beside the toilet even in small cubicles. Get in touch for a quote today!
