Women’s Health Week

Women’s health week is a nationwide campaign run by Jean Hailes. It is a week dedicated to all women across the county that aims at inspiring good health choices. During the week women, communities and organisations are encouraged to get involved by hosting events that motivate women to put their health first.
Each day of the week the campaign focuses on an important women’s health topic. Day one of this week was “the wonders down under” and focused on taking care of the vagina and its importance to general well-being. The following day was “heartbeat heroes” and was all about cardiovascular health. Wednesday was “the inside story” focusing on the bladder, gut and bowels and Thursday was “the heads up” focusing on mental health.
Today, the final day focuses on financial health. “Money matters” is about educating women to navigate financial stress, saving for the future and managing health care costs. It highlights how financial health can also impact ones mental and physical health.
The first women’s health week was organised in 2013 when it was discovered that there is no dedicated event devoted to women’s health in Australia. Growing each year the event has over 100,000 participants with thousands of events across Australia.
This week is important for shining the light on women’s health issues. It promotes women to reflect on their lifestyle and put their health first. If you want more information about women’s health week visit their website by clicking here.
